2019 Domaine Louis Michel Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre

$49.99
2019 Domaine Louis Michel Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre

Louis Michel's Montee de Tonnerre is the gem of the domaine's production and one of the region's sources for the highest quality premier cru values. We have a late release of the 20198 Montee de Tonnerre at this great price today, coming directly from the Louis Michel cellars. This is a stand out of the domaine, and Louis Michel's portion of the vineyard was planted in 1974, giving the wine an old vine concentration and slightly richer profile, which is the perfect balance between Chablis's often lighter and high-acid style. 2019 has some excellent concentration mixed with some classic minerality, making it a delicious and impressive example. Louis Michel's Montee de Tonnerre is one of the best price-quality buys for this very sought-after cru and is a client and personal favorite Cuvee from this address that is showing very well after spending some time in the bottle.

Jasper Morris MW (Inside Burgundy) 92-94 points! "From the Chapelots sector. Pale colour, but a peachy sunshine nose. There is, some almost aggressive limestone scratching the enamel on my teeth. Amazing tension, yet the fruit is still ripe. Very small crop here, which may explain the enormous concentration. Retasted after the grands crus I can see the harmony better. I may be underestimating this."

Wine Advocate (William Kelley) 92+ points! "The 2019 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre opens in the glass with notes of pear, green apple, wet stones, iodine and fresh pastry. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, it's taut and concentrated, with bright acids and a long, saline finish. It's derived from holdings in Chapelot."

Burghound 91 points! "An airy, expressive and beautifully layered nose speaks of smoky citrus, white flowers, iodine and shellfish. The round, seductive and vibrant medium-bodied flavors possess a succulent yet sophisticated mid-palate texture while delivering fine length on the clean, moderately dry and sneaky long finish. This too will need to add depth over time, but it has the underlying material with which to do so if allowed the chance."
