These are very classic wines made by his granddaughter Sabrine Mollard, who, like her grandfather, is an outstanding winemaker. The key to this Domaine is vineyard expression, and one of the gems of the lineup is Virondot, from over 30-year-old vines producing a robust, mineral-driven wine. The Domaine owns over 90% of the vineyard and is currently the only producer to bottle a Virondot. Over the years, the Virondot has been a very consistent wine, always showing the classicism that this address is known for from a producer we trust to make excellent white Burgundy. The '23 is right on par with the '22, making it another great buy for this top Chassagne Premier Cru, especially at this low pricing with no upcharge over the '22.
Vinous (Neil Martin) 93-95 points! "The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Virondot 1er Cru is a worthy follow-up to the impressive 2022. Very complex and harmonious on the nose, it just could not be from anywhere but Chassagne, combining very subtle yellow fruit notes with stirring mineralité. The palate is beautifully balanced with a fine bead of acidity. It's quite energetic at the moment, which will hopefully be captured in the bottle. There's a very sustained spicy aftertaste that completes a great Chassagne. (Drink between 2026-2048)"
