2017 Domaine Jean Chauvenet Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains

$79.99
2017 Domaine Jean Chauvenet Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains
With little to no importation in the US, the wines from Jean Chauvenet have become very rare, but we were able to source a few back vintage cases of one of the Domaine's best premier crus, Les Vaucrains. Operated by Jean Chauvenet's son-in-law, this 9.5-hectare estate focuses on the classic style of Nuit St. Georges, producing wines that need some cellar time to truly shine. The wines of Chauvenet embody classic rusticity, and with that comes some excellent age-worthiness. 2017 was a good vintage with nice yields and quality, making for a classic example of Vaucrains. This is sourced from old vines and is very terroir-driven, showing textbook deep dark fruits, intense minerality, and soil character. With prices of producers like Chevillon and Gouges significantly higher, this is a great buy, and for a bit of perspective, Jasper Morris scored this a point higher than Chevillon Vaucrains from the same year.

Jasper Morris MW (Inside Burgundy) 94 points! Vigorous youthful purple with real density. A backward nose of significant intensity, dark fruit of classic Nuits-St-Georges character. Huge intensity, with the black fruit complemented by the required freshness. A little pepper and spice, but led by the dark fruit. Real intensity."
