This was the best-buy red Burgundy we tasted on our trip to France a few weeks back. Michel Arcelain is an under-the-radar classic producer who made some very nice 2012's. Michel Porcelain is an under-the-radar producer located in Pommard that has been making traditional red Burgundy since 1889, though the wines rarely ever leave France and are mainly sold to the European market. Like many of our favorite addresses in Burgundy, the winemaking here is done with minimal intervention and a strong emphasis on letting the terroir shine through with fermentation, which is open-top vats and minimal new oak. This is true for the Beane Siserpe, which gives an excellent sense of place and comes from many small plots in Beaune. The 2012 vintage in Burgundy faced challenging weather conditions, including a cold winter and a wet spring, which reduced yields but resulted in concentrated and high-quality grapes. The Beaune Siserpe is lovely right now and is still very fresh, even at 12. Siserpe is a vineyard-driven Burgundy with lovely fruit to balance the structure and an absolute steal at this price point. These are coming straight from the cellar in Pommard and are in fantastic condition. We don't have much to sell, so please act quickly!
