We've been sold out of this for months but were finally able to get more. 2022 Mongeard-Mugneret Bourgogne Rouge exemplifies the estate’s expertise, built on winemaking roots dating back to 1620. Sourced from 30-55-year-old vines planted on Jurassic soils with broken stones and limestone grit over a deep clay matrix, this wine highlights the terroir-driven philosophy of the domaine, which manages 30 hectares across the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. The 2022 is a return to form after the ultra classic '21s and this is just gorgeous thanks to some slightly warmer weather, yielding concentrated, ripe fruit with balanced acidity. A mix of red and blue fruit, accented by excellent soil character and a touch of spice, defines the profile, offering surprising depth and a lush yet energetic mouthfeel. The wine's acidity brightens the fruit, complemented by well-integrated tannins and a polished, long finish. Already drinking beautifully, it has the structure to develop further with a few years of cellar time, showcasing the evolution and potential of Bourgogne Rouge over the last decade. This is one of our favorites in the category and is a great buy compared to other domaines!
