2004 De Saint Gall Champagne Grand Cru Cuvée Orpale Blanc de Blancs

$89.99
2004 De Saint Gall Champagne Grand Cru Cuvée Orpale Blanc de Blancs

We’ve had been working with the 2002 for a year or two, and now we have the terrific 2004 to offer which is a great vintage for Chardonnay based Champagnes. This Champagne received lots of lees time, and a sharp price for a Tete-de-Cuvée Grand Cru from the Cote de Blancs . As we’ve said in the past, Saint Gall is a co-op and ‘Orpale’ is their top Champagne. Jancis Robinson and Champagne expert Richard Juhlin have been fans for this producer for many years and James Suckling has joined this group recently with more hefty praise. The 2004 vintage was highly regarded by Decanter for good reason. This is a laser beam focused Tete de Cuvee at a fraction of the price of others on the market today. For us its always fun being able to bring a great Champagne like this at USA low pricing, and coming directly from their cellars.

Decanter 97 points! Our judges loved the way that the 2004 Champagne vintage is looking at present, especially in Blanc de Blanc form, hence this second Best in Show pick from the category. This is the slightly paler of the two wines, with very fine bubbles and a tenacious snowy crown. The scents take you back to its vineyard origins and the fine limestones of the region, with scents of rain on chalky clay, sap and crushed winter holly and ivy leaves, just backed by a little teasing warmth from its cellar years spent on yeast lees. On the palate, it's incisive, pure, long and grainy with a fine chalk drift to it: restrained, pure and elegant Champagne of great class. Drink 2019-2024
