As we continue looking for great wine values in the world, we've found a wonderful Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile. Miguel Torres has been around for decades and has flown mostly under the radar. This 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon is an incredible buy for under $20. Like Spain, Chile can have some incredible deals if you know where to look. We just tasted this, and the wine is true to the varietal and has lovely notes of red and black cassis and a soft touch of oak; it's also not very high in alcohol since 2021 was a cool growing season. The wine finishes with lovely focus and lingering notes of cherry, blackberry, and spice. This is the ultimate party wine, a cellar saver that any wine lover could enjoy. With some nice notes from Vinous and Tim Atkin, this is one to buy by the case!
Vinous (Joaquín Hidalgo) 93 pts! The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Cordillera de Los Andes hails from Puente Alto in the Maipo Valley. Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels and foudres, this garnet wine presents a nuanced nose reflective of the cold year, with notes of currant, balsamic, and lemon verbena. A hint of tomato leaf adds further complexity atop a subtle layer of oak. Dry and mild on the palate, the vividly structured palate delivers a taut mouthfeel in contrast to the expressive flavors."
Tim Atkin 93 pts! "Now sourced from Puente Alto, rather than Pirque, close to some of the Maipo Valley's most prestigious names, this is a modern, nuanced, well-balanced red that's all about fruit rather than obvious oak, showing smooth, textured tannins, flavours of mint, bramble and cassis and balancing acidity. 2025-31"
