We have an excellent vintage of Meursault Perriers today from Jean Michel Gaunoux, and after trying this a few weeks back, we are happy to report that this is showing great and is a fantastic example of the vineyard. Jean Michel Gaunoux makes fantastic wines, and the Meursault Perrieres here comes from a small parcel that is about 1/2 an acre. It is located mid-slope from vines planted in 1981 next to Clos de Perrieres. Jean Michel has been farming sustainably for years and has a classical approach to winemaking, using indigenous yeasts for fermentations and limited new oak. His top premier crus see only about 25% new oak, always bottled unfined and unfiltered. 2017 is a very compelling vintage for Jean Michel, with exceptional transparency and elegance coupled with great complexity and mineral nuance. It's a fantastic example of this excellent Meursault Premier Cru and the fairest-priced Perrieres of the vintage. This is classic Meursault Perrieres and is the style that we imagine when thinking about excellent white burgundy. Simply gorgeous after a few years in the bottle, this is an outstanding buy at lower pricing than the current release and has a nice CellarTracker Community score of 92.7.
Vinous (Neil Martin) 92-94 pts! "The 2017 Meursault Les Perrières 1er Cru has a lovely bouquet of apricot blossom, quince, wax resin and light minty aromas, quite complex if just needing a little more mineralité. The palate is very well balanced with a sappy opening that gets the saliva flowing. There is impressive substance here, and a vibrant, energetic finish. Superb. (Drink between 2020-2038)"
