A top buy for the 2019 vintage in Bordeaux, we have a fantastic best buy today from Chateau de Pressac, located in St. Emillion. A Chateau rich in history, it is said to be the site of surrender ending the 100 Years' War in 1453 and was later plated with a grape that came to be known as Noir de Pressac, which was later developed further in the Medoc and became Malbec as we know it. Chateau de Pressac was promoted to Grand Cru Classe in 2012 and, since that time, has shown it is worthy of its new status with a slew of excellent vintages leading up to 2019, which is one of the greatest ever from Chateau de Pressac. The Chateau itself is perched on a limestone plateau overlooking the Dordogne river and has 41 hectares of vines that grow in one continuous block around the property. The blend here is 72 % Merlot, 16% Cabernet Franc, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1% Pressac (Malbec), 2% Carmenère, and 2% Petit Verdot. Grapes are hand-harvested before double sorting and fermented plot by plot in temperature-controlled vats before gravity transferred to 50% new oak for 18 months. The 2019 is just beautiful, so elegantly layered and complex, and it is a captivating bottle that drinks at a level of wine twice the price. This is an awe-inspiring effort, and a tremendous value for the vintage as one of the top buys for 2019 Bordeaux. Big notes below we have a limited amount in stock at this friendly pricing and it is highly recommended.
Antonio Galloni 95 points! "The 2019 de Pressac is just as compelling from bottle as it was from barrel. A complex, mesmerizing wine, Pressac offers up an exotic mėlange of black cherry, plum, chocolate, new leather, licorice, spice and menthol. All the elements are so well balanced. Espresso, lavender, dried rose petal and cedar linger on the complex, beautifully delineated finish. The 2019 is seriously impressive. lt's as simple as that.
Decanter (Georgina Hindle) 94 points! "Sweet cherry and violets on the nose. Lovely smooth texture with fruit that has great precision and mouth watering acidity - strawberry, red cherries and redcurrants. It's fresh and fruity with a texture that just gently grips and holds interest. I like this and the long finish too. Just the barest hint of freshly picked mint leaves on the finish adding a cooling element to the final impression. (Drink between 2024 - 2042)"
James Suckling 94 points! "Very beautiful aromas of redcurrants and ripe plums with bark and moss, following through to a medium to full body with firm, creamy tannins and hints of salt and fresh herbs. So attractive now, but much better in 2025 and onwards."
