2020 Bruno Colin Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Verger

$99.99
2020 Bruno Colin Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Verger
A fantastic Chassagne premier cru, we have offered a few wines from Bruno Colin over the years, and this is one we couldn't pass up. Bruno is another distinguished part of the famed Chassagne-based Colin family. The son of Michel Colin, Bruno split his father's holdings with his brother Philippe after his retirement in 2003. Thanks to his vine inheritance Bruno has some excellent holdings featuring an array of Chassagne-Montrachet crus. Though because of the French law, holdings have to be evenly split, and because the holdings have been split among families so many times, in some instances, he only has a row or two of vines per vineyard, making quantity a bit more limited here.
2020 is clearly a great vintage for white Burgundy, and we have offered tons of wines from this great year. Riding on the back of this great year is the Vergers, which sees one of its best iterations of all time from Bruno Colin thus far and is quite a reasonably priced example of this great Chassagne Vineyard. Bruno has .33 hectares of Vergers which comes from the Lieu Dit, Les Pasquelles planted in 1974 and 1978 on textbook clay and limestone soils. Viens are tended with respect for the environment with mechanical tillage and plowing between rows and always hand-harvested fruit. The wine sees minimal new oak at about 20% for 12 months, with another 4-6 in vats before bottling. This is one of the best buys for Vergers on the market right now, and it is a complete example of the vineyard, harmonious and elegant with a nice freshness, aromatics, and balance between richness and vivacity. We have low pricing on a limited amount, and this is a beautiful white Burgundy worth checking out.

Burghound 92 pts! "A ripe, fresh and highly expressive nose also easily reveals its combination of citrus zest, apple, pear and pretty floral nuances. There is more volume and mid-palate density to the medium weight flavors that possess both better depth and excellent persistence on the balanced finale. This well-made effort appears to possess fine development potential and is a wine that will need at least a few years of patience. (Drink starting 2027)"
