2013 De Sousa et Fils Champagne Grand Cru Cuvée des Caudalies Le Mesnil

$189.99
2013 De Sousa et Fils Champagne Grand Cru Cuvée des Caudalies Le Mesnil

Today, we have an exceptional rare cuvee from De Sousa's 2013 vintage. De Sousa is an excellent grower that flies under the radar. We just popped a bottle last night and were blown away. De Sousa Champagne, founded in 1950 in Avize by Manuel De Sousa and now led by Erick De Sousa, cultivates 11 hectares in the Côte des Blancs, primarily Grand Cru vineyards like Avize, Cramant, and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. Specializing in biodynamic viticulture since 1999, De Sousa employs long lees aging, native yeast fermentations, and oak barrels for some cuvées, enhancing complexity. Les Mésnil comes exclusively from old vines (50+) in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, showcasing the terroir's hallmark chalky minerality and laser-sharp precision. The 2013 vintage is a fantastic year for Chardonnay in Champagne, and this is one of the best of all time from this address. 2013, in Mesnil flair, shows incredible depth and reminds me of a great white Burgundy with bubbles. Vinified in small oak barrels with native yeasts and a minimal addition of SO2, this spends a minimum of 8 years on the lees—lovely flavors of apple, brioche, liquid minerals, and stone fruits. Caudalie is a unit that measures the length of time you still taste the flavors in your mouth. 1 Caudalie equals .92 seconds, and this Champagne has about 60!
