2016 Robert Moncuit Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut Les Chetillons

$99.99
2016 Robert Moncuit Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut Les Chetillons
Unlike Pierre Moncuit, Robert Moncuit is another outstanding Cote de Blancs producer in Mesnil--sur-Ogier. A rising star many years ago, the Champagnes here are still quite underground in the US, and even rarer are the Milesieme releases.
This is a small, 8-hectare grower estate headed by fourth-generation winemaker Pierre Amillet, who has, since his tenure started in 2000, shifted to essentially organic viticulture, with the wines becoming exceptionally well-crafted, terroir-driven, mineral-spined beauties. We have the crown jewel of the lineup today, which comes from the beloved Chetillons vineyard, a legendary site popularized by Pierre Peters as one of the premier grand cru vineyards of the Cote des Blancs. Moncuit has 2 hectares of this famed site spread over five parcels, two of which were planted in 1956, giving the vines some excellent age and, subsequently, excellent concentration. The hand-harvested fruit is gently pressed and fermented in older barrels, where it goes through malolactic fermentation. The wine is then bottled and aged for another six years sur latte before being released with a very low dosage at 0 to 3 grams.
2016 is the newest release of Chetillons from Robert Moncuit, and though it was another tricky year, those who were skilled enough made some great Champagnes, and with Chardonnay going to be on the fresher side with high acidity, which is the perfect candidate for the vinification regimen performed here (oak and malo).
When compared to Pierre Peters, this is a fraction of the price and an outstanding buy from this incredible vineyard. We have low pricing here today on both the 750s and Magnums, and it is an overall fantastic buy for Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs this vintage.
