2016 Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona Brunello di Montalcino

$49.99
2016 Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona Brunello di Montalcino
This vintage is outstanding, so we bought the rest we could of Ciacci's Brunello. One of the ultimate buys for classic Brunello, Ciacci's unique location, provides the basis for one of the region's top wines. 2016 is an all-time best vintage for this wine and following up a vintage like 2015 is no easy task, but they pull ahead slightly. If you only buy one bottle from the 2016 vintage for Brunello, this is the one. See our original offer and review by Monica Larner below.

As the 2016 Brunello's rollout, it wouldn't be right without offering one of the region's best wines. Ciacci is a picturesque estate tucked away in the Tuscan hills, and it is this location in Castelnuovo dell'Abate that provides a very unique microclimate for the Ciacci wines. The Brunello Normale comes from an 8-hectare Sangiovese vineyard with marl rich soils at almost 1,200 feet elevation in some areas. Fermentation occurs in concrete and stainless steel before aging in Slovenian oak for 24 months before eight months more aging in bottle. One of our top selling Brunello's of all time, the 2016s are reaching even greater heights then the 2015s. 2016 is not a vintage to miss, and while many of the other top releases get pricey, this is a great buy for the tremendous quality packed in this bottle and is one of the most crucial purchases of the 2016 vintage.
Wine Advocate (Monica Larner) 95+ points! "The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino (with 56,000 bottles made) shows bold cherry, spice, crushed stone and balsam herb that come together in seamless fashion. This estate has honed a unique style that becomes a common theme traced to each new vintage. I'd describe it as delicate but also succulent with a rich and almost pulpy quality of fruit. The wine is fueled by the golden light that hits this part of Tuscany in those last hours of the day. Here is a wine that shows spirit of place."
