We love the white wines from the top producers in Colio and Fruili, with Schiopetto being one of our favorites. I noticed this wine in a supplier's book and asked for a sample to taste and was pretty blown away. When you think of Pinot Grigio, the first name that comes to mind is Santa Margarita, and that wine is over-cropped and leaves a lot to be desired. The 2018 Schiopetto Pinot Grigio is the complete opposite of the spectrum and is a stunning aged white wine and, at this price point, blows many of the white wines I have tasted in the last year. The wine has a golden hue, exotic fruits, and liquid minerals on the nose. Admiral depth loads of dry extract and a plate staining finish. While James Suckling's score of 96 points might be a little stretch, this is an excellent wine for the upcoming holidays and really showcases how good Pinot Grigio can be in capable hands. Usually, it is $35 a bottle, but we negotiated better pricing and can offer it only $22.99. This is a no-brainer for the white wine lover!
James Suckling 96 pts! "So much spice here – cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, white pepper and other spices. Limes and other citrus fruit. Star fruit, too. Full-bodied and minerally, showing stone and slate. Some olives, too. A pinot grigio masterpiece. Drink now."
