Livio Felluga, founded in 1956 in Northern Italy's Friuli Venezia Giulia region, spans over 160 hectares, meticulously cultivating vineyards that embrace sustainable practices. With a family winemaking tradition dating back to the late 19th century, Livio Felluga is deeply rooted in the art of crafting exceptional wines. The winery's commitment to quality is reflected in its diverse portfolio, with a focus on indigenous and international grape varieties. Livio Felluga produces wines that showcase the region's unique terroir while maintaining a reputation for elegance and complexity.
The Illivio is a stunning white wine created in 1998 as a hommage to Livio Felluga, founder and Patriarch of the family, for his eight-fifth birthday. The blend is Pinot Bianco, Chardonnay, and a little Picolit (indigenous white grape varietal). This is an excellent alternative without breaking the bank if you love white Burgundy. The wine is brought up in older, large oak foundres, which adds complexity to the wine without making the wine with too much oak. The wine's purity is beguiling with aromas of white flowers, orchard blossoms, nectarine, dried apricots, liquid minerals, and a touch of spice. The palate has incredible depth, lots of dry extracts, salinity, and a powerful palate-staining finish with lingering notes of exotic fruits. This beauty is one to drink over the next three to five years or more and is a stunning effort highly recommended for the new old-world white wine lover!
James Suckling 95 pts! "Aromas of flint, oyster shell, dust and ripe fruit. But always energetic. Medium to full body, with a solid structure and density, and a compacted and powerful center palate. Really impressive. Muscular but stealth. Dried fruit at the end. A blend of chardonnay, pinot bianco and a touch of picolit. Drink now."
Wine Enthusiast (Jeff Porter) 93 pts! "Created for the acclaimed Livio Felluga on his 85th birthday, this blend of Pinot Bianco, Chardonnay and Picolit honors Livio's impact on the region of Friuli and the rest of Italy. Aromas of farmer's market ripe apricot and white nectarine combine with magnolia, honey and almonds in the glass. Full in body, the wine is balanced by ample acidity and shows the beauty and distinct minerality of the Collio Orientali. Drink now–2035"
Vinous (Eric Guido) 92 pts! "The 2020 Bianco Illivio is savory and intense, captivating with a rich mix of rosemary, gingery spice and lemon oils. It greets the palate with a pleasant inner sweetness up front as a dense wave of texturally ripe orchard fruits and candied citrus tones coats all they touch in opulent concentration. Through it all, a core of brisk acidity and salty minerals maintains a lovely balance as the 2020 finishes youthfully grippy and long, leaving sour citrus nuances that seem to last up to a minute. This powerful rendition of Bianco Illivio will require a short stay in the cellar to come fully into focus. It's a blend of Pinot Bianco, Chardonnay and Picolit. (Drink between 2024 - 2030)"
