2017 Thomas Morey Bourgogne Blanc

$24.99
2017 Thomas Morey Bourgogne Blanc
This is like a mini-Chassagne Montrachet, and after recently re-tasting, it is clear the extra time in the bottle has been great for this wine. We said before that many of the wines in the Bourgogne category seem to be getting better, possibly a bit more ripeness in the vineyards with climate changes, or even a desire to make better wine. This is an excellent example of that quality and is a laserbeam-focused Chardonnay that drinks way above its pedigree. These are the last bottles we have of this, so grab one before they are gone!

Original offer:

We recently went back and tasted a few 2017 Bourgogne Blancs and were super impressed by they are holding up. It seems like this category has seen a surge in quality, and these plots that once maybe didn't get ripe enough and were austere are starting to get warmer with the climate change bringing more richness into these wines and are overall more enjoyable at this level. While that may not be the only reason, this is an excellent example of that quality increase. Thomas Morey's Bourgogne Blanc comes from two sites in the commune of Chassagne Montrachet. The first plot was planted in 1989 with grapes selected from the most robust old vines of the grown on shallow, clayey soils. The second was planted in 2004, growing on stony and gently sloping ground in Pierres' climat. There is a considerable difference in the style of Chardonnay from these two plots and blending them creates a seductive wine that is a worthy representative of its appellation. This is very Chassagne-like with excellent cut and minerality with a lovely acidity that gives good lift. The 2017 Thomas Morey Bourgogne Blanc is an impressive buy at this level and a fantastic option for those looking for great Burgundy without the price tag.

Tasting note by William Kelly "The 2017 Bourgogne Chardonnay offers up a youthfully reserved bouquet of buttered orchard fruit, wheat toast and spices, framed by a touch of new wood. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and textural, with succulent acids and a youthfully reserved profile that will likely reward a year or more of bottle age."
