We love the white wines from the top producers in Colio and Fruili, with Schiopetto being one of our favorites, and it's been a year since we have offered anything from this great northern Italian address. This is a stunning vineyard-driven wine from one of northern Italy's premier winemakers specializing in many of the region's indigenous varietals. The Malsalvia is a field blend, with the majority of the grapes being Malvasia, but it tastes like there is also some riesling in here, too. The vines are biodynamically farmed, and Indigenous yeasts are used with extended lees contact in the tank to make the wine richer. Aromatics of yellow fruits, wet stones, orange zest, and savory herbs jump from the glass. The palate is rich yet energetic, with tons of dry extract, yellow fruits, and wonderful acidity to keep everything balanced. If you are looking for an alternative white for parties or everyday drinking, this is a must-buy at close-out pricing, and the wines from Schiopetto can age as well! Don't let the price fool you because this is a fantastic, world-class white wine!
Vinous (Eric Guido) 92 pts! "The 2019 Malvasia blends richness with freshness and a bit of tropical fruit to create an inviting bouquet. It’s sweetly floral and a bit exotic, showing ripe peaches and apricot, along with a contrasting wave of yellow citrus. The textures are silky, almost weighty at times, while finding balance through brisk acids, as notes of sour melon, savory herbs, mint, and candied ginger linger on the dramatically long finish. There are so many layers to this gorgeous Malvasia. (Drink between 2021 - 2024)"
