2020 Albert Morot Beaune 1er Cru Les Aigrots

$49.99
2020 Albert Morot Beaune 1er Cru Les Aigrots

One of the great addresses of Beaune, Albert Morot, run now by the Choppin family, works with some of the top crus of the appellation and has been a producer we have admired for nearly 20 years. Originally a negociant until they bought their first parcel in the 1860s, the wines today are as good as ever, sticking with a classic winemaking style. The Albert Morot 2020s 1er Crus are fantastic and some of the best buys for Beaune 1er this vintage, with the Aigrots being a lovely example.  Morot's portion of Arigots was planted to a high density in 1981-1989 on stony, rich in loams and clays, mid-slope with classic eastern exposure. The Morot vineyards see de-budding, green harvesting, and leaf thinning while using only environmentally friendly protection to improve quality. Grapes are hand-harvested, 100% destemmed and fermented in traditional open-top vats with punch-downs or pump-overs once a day. They spend 14-18 months in a barrel with 30% new oak, seeing a very slow malolactic fermentation with no racking before being bottled by gravity with no fining or filtering. It's an excellent buy for Premier Cru red Burgundy, and we once again have low pricing on some of the only bottles available right now!

Jasper Morris MW (Inside Burgundy) 91 points! "Bottled end November, which is the usual time. Fresh ruby purple, and the fruit also is fresher on the nose, very attractive. I can still perceive the sunshine on the skins but this is very juicy succulent and will give great pleasure."
