2022 Domaine Latour-Giraud Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champs Canet Eta 1-17-2025

The 2022s from Latour Giraud are the best of all time, and we have a sensational example of Champ Canet today, which is one of their top efforts of the vintage. A classic Domaine with family roots going back to 1680 in Meursault, this domaine had a brief stint making Marc de Bourgogne at the Hospices of Mersault before moving to wine. Today, Jean-Pierre Latour heads this 10-hectare estate, holding most of the vineyards in Meursault, with The Champ Canet being the only white wine that doesn't come from Meursault. This vineyard is considered a slight continuation of Meursault Perriers, lying just outside the appellation in of Meursault in Puligny. The soils here are thin and stony, forcing the roots to dive right into the bedrock, creating a very elegant wine with beautiful floral aromatics and excellent minerality. 2022 is an exceptional vintage for this wine, and it shows excellent ripeness but purity and elegance, creating a beautiful interplay of power and finesse. This is, without a doubt, a contender for best Champ Canet of the vintage and not a bottle to miss for fans of white burgundy!

Burghound 95 points! "Ripe and beautifully layered aromas of pear and apple compote, a broad array of floral elements, spice, especially anise and citrus confit are trimmed in admirably subtle wood influence. There is outstanding volume to the concentrated, powerful and serious yet wonderfully refined medium weight plus flavors that coat the palate with sappy dry extract on the tension-filled, complex and strikingly persistent finale. This is a big but perfectly balanced Champs Canet and once again, a wine that is well-worth a special search to find. In a word, terrific."
