2023 Grosjean Pinot Noir Valle d'Aosta Eta W/O 12-9-2024

Today, we have a lovely Pinot Noir from Grosjean located in Valle d'Aosta, Northwest Italy. A family-run winery established in 1969, known for its organic farming practices since 2011, this part of Italy was once under the authority of Burgundian Dukes in the Middle Ages, hence the cultivation of Pinot Noir to this day. Sourced from their 5-hectare estate vineyards located between 2,000 and 2,600 meters above sea level' the fruit here fully benefits from the region's alpine climate and high diurnal temperature variation, which Pinot Noir loves. The 2023 vintage reflected the typical climate of warm days and cool nights, resulting in excellent ripeness with balanced acidity. Winemaking involves fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel, followed by aging in neutral oak to preserve varietal purity and emphasize the terroir-driven character. I had this wine at Thanksgiving and was very impressed initially, thinking it was a Pinot Noir from the Jura, given its very elegant aromas of red flowers, fresh berries, minerality, and a lovely savory component. The wine is ethereal and vibrant, with tons of dry extracts, lingering red fruits, and a whiplash of a finish. A great alternative for the classic Pinot Noir lover and not your everyday find!
