Jeb Dunnuck 93-95+Pts! I’ve always loved this wine, and I’m convinced it would be undetected in a blind lineup of top Cornas. The 2018 Vinsobres Les Hauts De Julien includes lots of Syrah and comes from the windy, cooler Vinsobres appellation. Its inky color is followed by awesome notes of dark fruits, smoked earth, meat, bouquet garni, and pepper. Complex, full-bodied, and powerful, with ripe tannins, it’s going to need bottle age, but it’s brilliant. In addition to the Château de Beaucastel releases, the Perrin family also releases a bevy of brilliant wines under their Famille Perrin label. Certainly, the Gigondas releases are the standouts, yet readers shouldn’t miss their Vinsobres releases; the flagship Les Hauts De Julien possibly one of the finest Syrahs dominated blend made in the southern Rhône!
Decanter 92 pts! Exceptionally dark in colour - plentiful, generous oak ageing but all very well integrated, this is very fresh expression. Fairly full in body, with a little smoky char on the palate. Acidity is robust, piercing, and it's not shy in alcohol. A flamboyant style this year.
90-year-old Syrah co-planted with Grenache, grown at 400m altitude. (Drink between 2022 - 2030)
2018 Famille Perrin / Perrin & Fils Vinsobres Les Hauts de Julien Due Late Nov/Early December 2024
