Olea's creation was a great move by Jasmin, 2016 is only the second vintage for this Cuvee but has created a buzz among fans of Cote-Rotie. A special Cuvee for Patrick who, for a long time, blended all his barrels into one Cote-Rotie. Olea is selection of his best barrels for the year. Jasmin vinifies all 8 of his parcels separately which are all planted to 95% Syrah and co-planted with 5% Viognier which happens to be his blend for all his wines. Jasmin uses an ancient varietal of Syrah called 'La Vieille Sérine, ' which is planted in most of his vineyard locations and provides more complex aromatics. The Olea is a noticeably more serious bottle and is an all-around jump in quality from the regular Cote-Rotie. Olea hangs in there with the best of the big names of Cote-Rotie, like Jamet, Guigal, Rostaing, and is the most difficult to find Cuvee from the Northern Rhone.
