The 2020 Chiara Condello Romagna Predappio is crafted from Sangiovese grown on 5 hectares of organically farmed vineyards in the Predappio region of Emilia-Romagna. Chiara Condello founded her namesake estate in 2015, focusing on traditional, minimal-intervention winemaking to express the terroir. In Chiara's words, "I have chosen a little piece of land close to a forest, in the heart of the appellation Predappio, in between 150 and 300 meters above sea level. Here, the vines are deeply rooted in poor calcareous clay soil, which is rich in pliocenic sandstones called Spungone. Three million years ago, there was a sea, and from here, I started working to produce a wine that is the expression of this uniqueness." The 2020 vintage benefited from a balanced growing season, producing wines with excellent structure and bright acidity. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with native yeasts, followed by aging in Slovanian oak and stainless steel vats to preserve purity. Condello is part of a younger generation revitalizing Predappio's reputation for high-quality Sangiovese, highlighting the region's unique marl and sandstone soils, and is a rising star to keep an eye on in the future!
Vinous (Eric Guido) 92+ points! "The 2020 Sangiovese Romagna Predappio is spicy and deep, with sweet rose and dusty black cherries accentuated by hints of ash and mint. This is undeniably elegant in feel, washing silken waves of ripe wild berries across the palate that leave a mineral staining, along with sweet inner herbal tones. It finishes with a lingering concentration and super-fine tannins as tobacco and cocoa notes slowly fade. The 2020 will require a bit more time in bottle to soften its contours, but it’s packed full of potential. It’s hard to think of this as Chaira Condello’s entry-level wine. (Drink between 2024 - 2028)"
