It's been almost a year since we have offered something from domaine Rosiers. The Domaine was started in 1976 by Andre Drevon, and it is now operated by Andres Nephew Maxime since 2013. The Domaine consists of 8 hectares spread over 20 different plots of vineyards in Cote-Rotie and Condrieu, with 90% of the vines located in Cote Brune. Besset is a selection of 5 barrels at the end of the vintage from a plot with the same name. The vineyard's best rows are selected and vinified separately, totaling 10 barrels of wine, and only 5 make it into the Besset. The remaining barrels go into their Coeur de Rose and Drevon cuvees. Aromatically profound and powerful, this is one of the last Cote-Roties on the market that is still pre-tariff pricing making this an incredible buy for those that gravitate to the Northern Rhone. These are some of the last bottles in the USA, and we only have a limited amount, so do not miss out!
Wine Enthusiast 94 points! "Made from 100% Syrah, this spicy, violet-perfumed wine offers bold black cassis and cherry flavors marked by anise, cacao and iron. It's lavish and silky in texture but pertly balanced. The long finish is marked by fine, penetrating tannins. It drinks beautifully now but will continue to improve through 2030 and hold further."
Vinous (Josh Raynolds) 92 points! "Bright violet. Powerful mineral- and oak-accented aromas of ripe blueberry, licorice and candied flowers, along with a subtle hint of olive in the background. Juicy and seamless on the palate, displaying appealingly sweet, nicely concentrated black and blue fruit preserve flavors that show very good depth and clarity. Smoothly blends power and finesse and finishes quite long, with smooth tannins adding gentle grip. 50% new oak."
Jeb Dunnuck 92 points! "The 2016 Côte Rôtie Cuvée Besset is 100% Syrah (from the northern part of the appellation) that spent 18-20 months in 50% new oak. Deeply colored, with lots of cassis and black raspberry fruits, it opens up nicely with time in the glass and reveals more incense, white pepper, cedarwood, and dried floral notes. With medium-bodied richness and a balanced, elegant texture, drink it over the coming 10-15 years."
