This is the second oldest winery in the world, dating back to the 12th century, and the largest landowner of Chianti. All 400+ hectares it owns are farmed sustainably, producing several great high-end single vineyard wines, but the Chianti Riserva is the best buys of the range. 100% Sangiovese, this wine is aged in large French oak, of which a small percentage is new. The wine has wonderful balance, complexity, and a sneaky long finish. Approachable now, it should easily age for a decade or more and is one of the best $30 Chianti's we have tasted in a while. It is highly recommended, and we have excellent pricing today for a few cases arriving next week.
Wine Advocate (Monica Larner) 93+ Oak aging plays a larger role in shaping the intensity and texture of the Barone Ricasoli 2019 Chianti Classico Riserva Brolio (with 80,000 bottles produced). You can count on a solid 10-year aging window for this wine. Made with all Sangiovese, the wine is balanced and especially bright with dark fruit, spice and cured tobacco. It offers soft tannins, ample volume and lingering hints of toast and spice. This is another terrific value (with some aging potential too).
