2021 Domaine Wachau Riesling Bruck Federspiel

$24.99
2021 Domaine Wachau Riesling Bruck Federspiel
One of the top white wine values of the vintage, this is an incredible high-scoring deal from Wachau, Austria's leading winegrowing area. The Bruck Federspiel is a fantastic dry Riesling that stands up to bottles two to three times the price, checking all of the boxes for a great Riesling. This wine clearly punches above its weight class and is easily one of the best buys not just for Riesling but the entire white wine category. One of the highest-scoring wines we have seen at this pricing, this is not one to miss.

We have an outstanding Austrian best buy from a producer that we have yet to offer, Domaine Wachau. This Winery is led by Roman Horvath MW and Heinz Frischengruber, who have developed one of the top wineries in Austria, producing an excellent range of Wachau wines that beautifully reflect the Wachau. The small vineyard plots in the steep terraces along the Danube river are cultivated by vintner families, like many of the great co-ops of Chablis, Champagne. Their intensive manual work, craftsmanship, and sustainability, coupled with the vineyards' biodiversity and care, are Domäne Wachau's pillars. Many of these vineyards are world-famous, including Achleiten, Kellerberg, and Singerriedel.
We have the best example of the Bruck Federspiel that Domaine Wachau has ever produced. Sourced from the Ried Bruck im Spitzer Graben, located to the south, is one of the most exciting growing areas of Wachau. Here winegrowing is pushed to the outer limit of what is possible with pure bedrock terraces made from Gneiss which also see slightly cooler temperatures.
Reisling from Bruke Federspeil is complex and intense, imbued with a profound minerality and with fruit that ranges from orchard fruit to slightly tropical and naturally high acidity. 2021 shows an enticing interplay of power and elegance and is on par with some of the great Rieslings of Germany, but at pricing, we rarely see for this much quality. We have the only bottles available in the USA, and if you love German Reisling or mineral-driven, racy white wines, this is one to check out.

Wine Advocate (Stephan Reinhardt) 95 pts! "From a steep cru on gneiss and marble in the cooler Spitzer Graben area of the Wachau, the 2021 Ried Bruck Spitz Riesling Federspiel opens with a deep, pure and intense, very elegant and complex nose with ripe Riesling aromas intermingled with enormously stony notes. On the palate, this is a spectacular, complex and refined Riesling with great intensity and terroir expression. The term Federspiel downsizes this Riesling a bit, although it is an elegant, medium to full-bodied wine that has the complexity, finesse and intensity of a grand cru. Definitely a wine to have from this superb vintage. The aftertaste is spectacular in its mineral tension and salinity. That's Riesling at its best! 12.5% stated alcohol. Screw cap closure. Tasted in June 2022."
