2011 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains

$149.99
2011 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains
Chevillon, as many know, makes one of the best examples of the Vaucraiuns vineyard, and today, we have a lovely back vintage from 2011. Considered one of the top producers in Nuit St. George, Chevillon makes some of the most excellent Premier Crus in Burgundy. These have long been a staple for the Burgundy lover, and many can attest to how great these wines are with cellar time.
Sourced from nearly 80-year-old vines, Vaucrains is the oldest holding of Chevillon, located just above Les Saint Georges and Les Cailles, planted on textbook clay and limestone soil. 2011 is a bit of an underdog, and while it was a challenging vintage, Chevillon made awe-inspiring examples with more concentration and character than the thinner and less attractive wines that the vintage is known for. This is an impressive vintage for Chevillon, all things considered, and an excellent example of Vaucrains among the best of all time. This vintage shows more of the elegant side of the vineyard and is a compelling and structured wine that is just now starting to enter an excellent window for enjoyment. The perfect choice for those looking for something to enjoy now, we have friendly pricing on these ex-cellar bottles in fantastic condition, due to arrive by the end of the year.

John Gilman 95 pts! "The 2011 Vaucrains from Domaine Chevillon is a superb example of the vintage, delivering a deep and very youthful blend of red and black cherries, plums, gamebirds, raw cocoa, a very minerally expression of dark soil, nutskins and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very pure, with a sappy core of fruit, an outstanding signature of soil, firm, ripe tannins, exceptional focus and balance and stunning mineral drive on the very, very long and classy finish. Stunning young Vaucrains. (Drink between 2025 - 2075)"

Burghound 92 pts! "This is very reserved, indeed to the point where the nose is borderline taciturn and requires considerable swirling to reveal the ripe and intensely earthy nose of animale inflected dark berry fruit. The concentrated, powerful and muscular broad-shouldered flavors ooze with an abundance of dry extract that actually causes the very firm tannins to appear more civilized than they really are. Despite the reserve of the nose the austere finish is explosive and the length is excellent. (Drink starting 2023)"
