2012 is the best vintage of Présidence we have tasted, and today we have a limited amount of a recently disgorged batch coming directly from R. & L. Legras. The house has long held back stock and released small batches with progressively greater age, but these late-disgorged releases have become fewer and further between, and this is the first time in years that we have been able to offer the 2012 Présidence. We have had this Champagne countless times since its original release, and it has only gotten better with age. Produced entirely from old-vine Chardonnay grown in Chouilly Grand Cru, Présidence sees some of the best fruit in the Legras portfolio and, in 2012, is every bit as compelling as the house’s tête de cuvée Saint-Vincent. These bottles spent nearly 14 years on the lees, developing tremendous depth and complexity while retaining the purity, freshness and precision that define the Legras style. There is remarkable focus and concentration here, yet the wine remains elegant, refined, and incredibly persistent through the long, mineral-tinged finish. Présidence is a stunning Blanc de Blancs, and by working directly with R. & L. Legras, we can offer these at excellent pricing on some of the only bottles currently available in the United States. We cannot recommend this enough, and it is one of our favorite Blanc de Blancs of the 2012 vintage, especially when value is taken into account.
