We have a rare value here today from Chateau Pegau, the second label of Domaine Pegau in Chateauneuf du Pape. The Cuvee Setier is a lovely Cote du Rhone that only makes it to the US in small quantities and is one of the few of its kind that can actually age for 10 years or more. This is particularly true for 2015 due to the vintage being one of the best of all time. Setier is the top wine of the Pegau second label and is like a mini Chateauneuf du Pape made with a blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 20% Mourvèdre from vineyards planted on hillsides with very pebbly soils. The 2015 is in a fantastic spot to enjoy now and is a great example of the vintage with excellent concentration and richness but with lovely fruit and the signature elegance of the vintage. It also developed some beautiful savory complexity with time in the bottle, which adds to its depth. The Setier is an incredible value in this market and an excellent example of this vintage that appeals to all levels of wine drinkers.
James Suckling 92 points! "Wild, blood orange and pomegranate on the nose with pink-grapefruit zest. This is an exotic expression with a slick, plush palate. Holds weight and smooth, long tannins. Bright and plush. Drink now or hold."
Jeb Dunnuck 91 points! "More elegant than the Côtes du Rhône, the 2015 Côtes du Rhône Village offers terrific notes of currants, pepper, saddle leather, and garrigue. Medium-bodied, elegant, fresh and balanced, it's a terrific wine as well and should keep even longer."
