2015 Porseleinberg Swartland

$69.99
2015 Porseleinberg Swartland

Vinous (Neal Martin) 96 pts! The 2015 Porseleinberg comes from a cool season that was just about perfect, according to Callie Louw. This was matured for 12 months, 90% in wooden foudres and 10% concrete eggs. Strangely, there is something slightly Médocian on the nose, pencil shavings infusing the mixture of red and black fruit, light leathery scents surfacing with time. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins, more harmonious than the 2014, quite deep yet elegant, with excellent tension toward the finish. (Drink between 2024 - 2045)

Jeb Dunnuck 95 pts! The flagship cuvée from winemaker Marc Kent, the brilliant 2015 Syrah Porseleinberg is 100% Syrah brought up in foudre and demi-muids. Deep ruby/purple-colored with a Cornas-like style in its black cherry, currants, scorched earth, and huge mineral-laced bouquet, it's medium-bodied, fresh, focused, and chiseled on the palate, with plenty of tannin and acidity. It's going to benefit from 2-4 years of cellaring and keep for a decade or more after that. (Drink between 2020 - 2030)

James Suckling 95 pts!  A really perfumed nose of violets, jasmine and incense. Nutmeg, cloves, Chinese spices, dark licorice and dark-chocolate shavings to follow. Full body, grippy and grainy tannins, vibrant acid drive and a long, chewy finish. A granite and savory aftertaste. Really well done. Drink now or hold.
