Bouchard's 2017 Les Cailles is a terrific late release coming directly from Bouchard’s cellars, giving this wine the kind of provenance that is becoming increasingly rare. Les Cailles is one of the great premier crus of Nuits-Saint-Georges, known for combining the village’s structure and depth with a refinement and elegance that set it apart from many of its more muscular neighbors. The 2017 vintage adds another layer of appeal, offering red Burgundy that is already expressive, balanced, and approachable, while still having the freshness and structure to continue aging. Bouchard’s version shows the classic Cailles combination of red and dark cherry, spice, earth, floral notes, and mineral tension, with polished tannins and a long, harmonious finish. It is a fantastic ex-cellar release from one of Burgundy’s historic houses, showing very well now, and is a great buy for the category at this price!
Wine Advocate (William Kelley) 91 points! "Attractive aromas of raspberries and cherries mingling with nuances of blood orange, grilled squab and dark chocolate introduce the 2017 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Cailles, a wine that's showing substantially better than it did from barrel in December. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, showing good depth and dimension at the core, fine but chalky structuring tannins and good length on the finish."
