The first offer we have made of this new vintage, Francois Carillon's Bourgogne Blanc, is one of the best examples in Burgundy; from almost 60-year-old vines, the Carillons have grown grapes in Puligny Montrachet for 500 years. Francois's wines are right there with his brother Jacques in terms of quality while coming in at a slightly lower price point. The 2019 Bourgogne Blanc here, in many cases, just like '18s drinking at village level quality and is so refined, complex, and elegant. Fragrant and decadent on the nose, the wine starts with notes of pear, sweet nectarine, slightly caramelized green apple with vanilla bean, and the faintest hint of green almond. The palate follows with fresh juicy lemon, citrus peel, and a tart apple flavor— medium-bodied Chardonnay with a long finish, fresh acidity, and superb balance. The 2019 Francois Carillon Bourgogne Blanc is an outstanding value and ready to drink today with the appeal for the classic Burgundy drinker and the domestic one with its delicious rich character while still carrying the torch of classicism.
