The Carillon family has a winemaking history dating back to 1520, with Jacques Carillon being the leader for decades. Jacques Carillon has been working here since the 80s, but the family estate was split in 2010 when his brother Francois took his portion of the vines to create his own estate. Jacques still is classic, and these are beautiful, focused wines that age very well and with excellent terroir expression. His winemaking style also focuses on minimal intervention, with hand harvesting and minimal use of new oak. The vines for the Puligny AC here are, on average, 40 years old and show a delicate profile with excellent supporting richness, acidity, and mineral expression. 2020 is one of the top examples here, with the richness and concentration of the vintage complimenting the outstanding acidity. It's one that is going to do very well in the cellar, and we have friendly pricing on a few cases today.
John Gilman 91 points! " Jacques Carillon has made some of the loveliest white wines of the vintage in 2020. His Puligny AC is truly a superb villages, with a fine girdle of acidity that suggests giving it just a few years in the cellar will pay handsome dividends. The bouquet hops from the glass in a very pure blend of lemon, pear, chalky minerality, fresh almond, vanillin oak and a lovely topnote of apple blossoms. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, focused and complex, with a lovely core, fine soil undertow and grip and a long, well-balanced and zesty finish. Fine juice in the making."
Jasper Morris MW (Inside Burgundy) 90-92 points! " Lovely vibrant and refreshing colour with a green gleam. The bouquet is unusually extrovert for this stage here. Fresher and longer but less rich than 2019, still very youthful, almost yeasty. Good tension, very appealing all round, with classical Jacques Carillon structure. More class than 2018 too, I think. Ripe citrus notes to finish."
