2020 Vigneti Vecchio Etna Rosso Contrada Crasa

$39.99
2020 Vigneti Vecchio Etna Rosso Contrada Crasa
We have special pricing on the 2020 Vigneti Vecchio Etna Rosso Contrada Crasà today, which is a terrific example of why Etna remains one of the most exciting red wine zones in Italy. Vigneti Vecchio works on the northern side of Mount Etna, where high elevation, volcanic soils, old vines, and dramatic temperature swings give Nerello-based wines their unique mix of perfume, structure, and mineral tension. Contrada Crasà comes from vines planted high at around 2,100 feet above sea level, with the estate fermenting all the fruit naturally in stainless steel, followed by aging in older 500-liter barrels. The 2020 is a lovely vintage here, giving the wine beautiful balance, with ripe cherry, wild herbs, smoke, tar, volcanic grit, and fine tannins, carried by the freshness that makes Etna Rosso so compelling, and this is showing very well with 6 years of age. This is not a heavy Sicilian red; it is lifted, savory, mineral, and ageworthy, with the kind of complexity and site character that have made Etna one of the best places to look for serious reds at reasonable prices.

Vinous (Eric Guido) 91 pts! The 2020 Etna Rosso Crasà Contrada opens with a darkly alluring blend of ground ginger and currants complicated by spice blood orange and camphor. It is surprisingly juicy and energetic within, with tart wild berry and blueberry fruits underscored by saline minerals and hints of sour citrus. It finishes with a tart concentration, yet only lightly tannic as a saline tinge slowly tapers off. (Drink between 2024 - 2028)
