We’ve been working with Elisabetta Gepptti’s Poggio Valente for almost a decade now, and it’s been a pleasure to see the quality continue to rise over the years. Even before the Poggio Valente, Elisabetta Geppetti had long been one of our favorite winemakers in Tuscany, coming to fame with her iconic “Saffredi” before buying a small property in the Maremma here called Poggio Valente. Made from 100% Sangiovese from mostly older vines that are now about 50 years in age, her elegant style has been, from the beginning, a perfect match for these heavier soils, bringing elegance to an appellation that can sometimes be a more rustic expression of the variety. Poggio Valente is a sweet spot in price for us and a terroir that Gepptti calls home, where she became the first woman president of the appellation’s wine consortium. 2022 is the best version of the Poggio Valente ever, with a big review and easy price for this delicious Tuscan staple

The 2022 Poggio Valente is punchy and bright with terrific clarity of fruit. Winemaking has shifted over the years to prioritize larger oak botte. This change has allowed for more varietal expression with blue flower, heritage rose, tart cherry, rye bread and crushed stone. The wine's flavor signature is wholly Mediterranean with hints of rosemary and lavender. The effect is especially luminous and lifted in 2022. This is an elegant wine with a unique voice."
