The 2022 Livio Felluga Friuli Colli Orientali Sauvignon is the best Northern Italian white wine deal we have ever offered. This wine comes from vineyards covering approximately 155 hectares in the Friuli Colli Orientali region, known for its marl and sandstone soils. Livio Felluga, established in 1956, is a pioneer of quality winemaking in Friuli, blending traditional and modern techniques to make standout wines. The Sauvignon is a white grape of French origin that was introduced into Friuli during the rule of the Hapsburgs and popularized in the early 1900s. This is Northern Italy's version of Sauvignon Blanc but shows a slightly different expression in this different terroir. It's a fresh and captivating wine with unmistakable multifaceted aromas and marked notes of exotic fruit, yellow peppers, tomato leaves, mint, lantana, and boxwood. The Sauvignon is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve varietal purity and aged on lees for added complexity. The 2022 vintage experienced a warm and dry growing season, leading to concentrated fruit and balanced acidity, making for one of the best examples of this wine ever. This is a great little quaffer but also quite serious. It does well with traditional holiday side dishes, is also a great way to start a meal, and is one of the top white wine values we have offered this year. Don't miss these last bottles at this closeout pricing!
James Suckling 94 pts! "A more restrained and classy sauvignon with white sesame, light pears, apples and flint. Medium-bodied with a solid center palate and lovely length. This is complex and pretty. Real refinement with Sauvignon Blanc. Drink now. Screw cap."
Vinous (Eric Guido) 91 pts! "The 2022 Sauvignon opens with an herbal tinge, as rosemary and sage give way to lemon rinds and exotic spice. This is soothingly round with cooling acidity that enlivens its depths of sour melon and citrus tones. The 2022 finishes spicy, potent and long, with a minty resonance and liquid stone hints. (Drink between 2024 - 2027)"
