N.V. Ployez-Jacquemart Champagne Extra Quality Brut 375ML

$29.99
N.V. Ployez-Jacquemart Champagne Extra Quality Brut 375ML
Ployez-Jacquemart’s Extra Quality Brut is the house’s signature non-vintage Champagne and a terrific introduction to this excellent producer. Built from 34% Chardonnay, 33% Pinot Noir and 33% Meunier, it draws on Premier and Grand Cru fruit from villages including Mailly, Ludes, Bisseuil, Cuis, Puisieulx and Vertus, with only the first press used. The wine spends at least four years aging in the domaine’s cellars and is finished at a restrained 5 g/L dosage, giving it a beautiful balance of richness and freshness. There is enough Pinot Noir and Meunier to give the wine vinosity, while the Chardonnay keeps everything lifted and precise, with ripe orchard fruit, subtle honeyed notes and a clean, energetic finish. This has long been a sleeper value in Champagne, offering far more quality than most entry-level bottlings from the larger houses and ranking #38 in Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2025. For anyone looking to rediscover Ployez-Jacquemart after the recent late-release wines we have offered, this is the perfect everyday bottle from the house and a great buy for champagne in half bottle!

John Gilman 92+ points! "This iteration of Laurence Ployez’s non-vintage Brut is from the base year of 2018. I bought a case of this for my cellar and vowed I would not touch a bottle for at least two years, as I just tasted it six months ago. Well, twenty-five percent of self-control is still some form of self-control, no? This particular bottle was disgorged in March of 2024, after five years aging sur lattes and finished with its customary dosage of five grams per liter. It is a blend of one-third each of chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot meunier. The wine is still quite youthful aromatically, wafting from the glass in a lovely mix of apple, pear, incipient notes of fresh apricot, chalky soil tones, brioche, almond, fruit blossoms and a touch of oak. On the palate the wine is crisp, focused and full-bodied, with a superb core of fruit, lovely mineral undertow and grip, a fine girdle of acidity, elegant mousse and excellent balance on the long and youthfully complex finish. This has seemingly not budged structurally in the last six months and will still be a better drink a couple of years down the road. (Drink between 2025-2050)"
