2023 Parr Wines Scythian Wine Co Revolution Lopez Vineyard Eta Late Feb 2025

I have known Raj Parr for almost thirty years, and last week, I visited him at his winery in Cambria. He has one of the best palates out of anyone I have ever tasted with, and it's always fun to see what he's been working on. I tasted the whole lineup, and this was the most intriguing of the bunch. Revolution is sourced from very old bush vines from Ranch Cucamonga Valley in California. It blends Zinfandel from Lopez Ranch, planted in 1918, Palomino, planted in 1912, and Grenache from Hofer Ranch, Planted in 1930. The Palomino and Zinfandel grapes are co-fermented whole cluster, and the Grenache was also a whole cluster but fermented separately with everything aged in neutral oak. This is a very fun and delicious wine that tastes somewhat reminiscent of an elegant Chateauneuf du Pape since the alcohol level is only in the 12% range. The balance here is perfect, and all the flavors play well together, and it is great with a slight chill. It's a great daily drinker or a fun wine to serve blind to guests to see what they think. Finding a wine under $30 from 100-year-old vines is a real novelty, and this is just not one to pass up!
