This came directly from the Perrot cellars, and we tried a bottle the other day, and it was outstanding. Well-made old-school Burgundy made in the style of the 60s with classic aromatics, good acidity, and mature tannins. We tasted this over 12 hours, and it was better after it opened up with air, a great sign of aging. In today's Red Burgundy market for ready-to-drink wines, this is a screaming deal, and while you can enjoy this now, it will age another decade easily, so it's the best of both worlds. Typically, deals like this come from the Cote de Beaune, so it's nice to get a respected Cote de Nuits 1er Cru from Gevrey at this price point. We recently found a surprising wine from a former producer who has sold all of his holdings or made growing contracts and no longer makes wine. However, some ex-cellar selections remain to be had, like this beautiful Petit Chapelle. 2013 was the last vintage of the Domaine made of Petit Chapelle before a contract was made with Louis Jadot and Ponsot, who now purchase the fruit from Perrot. A good friend of ours in France recently tasted many vintages from the cellar and was surprised at how well the overlooked vintages, like 2013, 2011, and 2008, were showing better than the more significant vintages like 2010. The style of these wines is classic, and they have a lovely rusticity that reminds of the old school of Red Burgundy, which isn't as prominent in Burgundy these days. The parcel used for the Petit Chapelle is located right next to Charmes-Chambertin and is a sought-after piece of the vineyard, hence Jadot and Ponsot's interest. 2008 is showing great with classic mature Pinot Noir aromas with an excellent core of red fruit, followed by earth, sous bois, leather, and mushroom notes. Red fruit appears again on the palate in a precise and juicy fashion. It is quite fleshy and supple with an excellent backbone of acidity and minerality while balanced and long on the finish. A fantastic insider buy, we have the only bottles available in the world right now, and at this pricing, it merits a look, coming highly recommended for Red Burgundy with age.
