2019 Château de Vaudieu Châteauneuf-du-Pape Amiral G

$89.99
2019 Château de Vaudieu Châteauneuf-du-Pape Amiral G

One of the wines of the vintage for 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape, Chateau de Vaudieu is an old address founded in 1767 by Admiral Gérin, a lieutenant in the Marseille admiralty. The estate was one of the three major castles of the XVIIIth century in Châteauneuf du Pape, situated in a place that was known as "Val de Dieu" or Valley of God, known for its excellent land perfect for cultivation. Today Chateau de Vaudieu is the flagship estate of the Brechet family, who owns multiple wineries across France.
Chateau de Vaudieu comprises one vast 70-hectare vineyard that spans multiple terroirs, soil types, exposures, and elevations. Different varietals are planted in the parts of the vineyard they are most suited for and are vinified separately before blending. Centuries ago, before phylloxera, it was considered one of the four best vineyards in Chateauneuf du Pape due to its quantity and quality of yields.
Amiral G is an homage to the founder of this great Chateau. The Brechet's wanted to make something that was genuinely stand out, so they decided to make a bottling of 100% Grenache, a grape they consider to be the Admiral of Chateauneuf du Pape varieties. The Grenache for this Cuvee is sourced from the best plots with soils consisting of red clay with classic large rocks on the surface located on one of the highest points of the Villafranchian plateau of Chateauneuf du Pape.
Grapes are destemmed before crushing and transferred to temperature-controlled concrete seeing a 30-day maceration before aging in 600-liter demi-muid for 18 months.
Amiral G shows the beautiful Grenache dynamic of power and finesse, with a complex array of herbs, perfectly ripe fruit, and textbook minerality. 2019 is a magical bottle and, as Jeb Dunnuck notes below, should warrant a perfect score with a bit more age, stacking up against the greatest wines of the vintage at very reasonable pricing. A rare find not much of this is imported and we have low pricing on some of the only bottles available in the USA.

Jeb Dunnuck 98+ points! "The 100% Grenache 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Amiral G. is totally brilliant, and I’d put it up against anything out there. Deep ruby/purple-hued, with an incredible bouquet of blackberries, ground herbs, cured meats, and peppery spice, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, ripe, seamless tannins, no hard edges, and a great finish. This is pure Grenache magic and will most likely warrant a triple-digit score in 3-5 years and drink well for 15+."
