N.V. Alvear Pedro Ximénez Solera 1927 375ml

$29.99
N.V. Alvear Pedro Ximénez Solera 1927 375ml

A client favorite, we were able to get a bit more of this fantastic Best Buy for Sherry at our same great pricing. Old Sherrys are some of the most complex and layered wines out there, and this was no exception. The smorgasbord of flavors is mind-blowing, with dried fruits, grilled notes, toffee, and mocha that lingered on the palate for minutes. It would be a great pairing cheese and charcuterie with a cigar or even on top of ice cream. A true winner, it will also last for a week or two after opening with no issue.

This is a beautiful Sherry best buy from Alvera, a Bodega founded in 1729 in Montilla-Moriles, the same village that greats like Toro Albala call home. For almost 300 years, this Spanish estate has been owned by the same family, passed down from generation to generation, and is one of the oldest estates in the area. The Alvear family is quite large, and ownership of the winery is split among 50 members of the family who actively work at the estate. Alvear, being an old estate, has some very old soleras of Pedro Ximenez, the varietal of Sherry, and this bottle is sourced from a Solera started in 1927, meaning that every bottle sees a small percentage of juice dating back almost 100 years along with juice from every vintage in between. This is one of the best buys we have ever seen for Sherry, with material dating back this far, and something like this from Toro Albala would be much more expensive. Such an impressive bottle; if you have been interested in Sherry or maybe older fortified wines in general but have been put off by the price, then this is a great choice, and for the already experienced, this is a no-brainer. We have a limited amount in stock, and these are currently some of the only bottles available in the USA.

Wine Advocate (Luis Guttierrez) 98 points! "The NV Pedro Ximenez Solera 1927 is non-vintage, but does have some 1927 material in it. This is totally dark brown/amber with notes of figs, toffee, caramel syrup, molasses and coffee. It is dense, super sweet, intense, rich and an amazingly, unctuously textured, thick beverage to consume slowly and introspectively after a meal. Drink now through 2050, or even longer."
