Muller-Catoir is one of our favorite producers in Pfalz, located between the Rhine river and the Haardt mountains; Muller-Catoir makes an exceptional range of wines. Still, our top picks have always been their drier creations like the trockens or GG's. This wine, in particular the Bürgergarten Im Breumel, is Muller-Catoir's flagship dry wine. Sourcing from an organically grown prime section of the Burgergarten vineyard called "Im Breumel." The vines are 25-26 years old and produce fantastically concentrated fruit with incredible minerality from the mottled yellow sandstone soils referred to as "Haardt Sandstone." It is a wine that bends the boundaries of power and elegance with racy acids, ripe fruit, and profound minerality, all delicately balanced. The Im Breumel is a fantastic age-worthy Riesling that is a must for those that enjoy precise, mineral-driven white wines.
James Suckling 98 points! "Like the first rosebud of the season that has fully colored, but is only just beginning to open up, this is full of promise. Densely packed with minerals and positive tannins that are neatly wrapped in creaminess from lees contact, this is locked into its own time frame. You really need to give it a lot of air for the mirabelle, nectarine and mandarin notes to emerge. Then there’s a stunning interplay of fruit and structure through the long, very complete finish. From organically grown grapes. Better after 2021."
Wine Advocate (Stephan Reinhardt) 92-93 points! "The 2019 Bürgergarten "Im Breumel" Riesling GG is deep, clear and pure on the aromatic, elegant and mineral nose with its ripe and concentrated aromas of yellow stone fruit. Full-bodied, round and juicy on the silky-textured palate, this is an intense Im Bremen with stewed mirabelle aromas on the finish. Very elegant and with fine tannins, this is a wine to keep. Tasted as a sample in April 2020."
