2012 J. Lassalle Champagne Premier Cru Cuvée Angeline

$89.99
2012 J. Lassalle Champagne Premier Cru Cuvée Angeline

Lassalle has produced excellent Champagne in the village of Chingy-les-Roses in the Montagne des Reims for some time. The 16-hectare estate follows the traditional practices that Jules Lassalle implemented before his passing, including the use of a traditional basket press and vinifying every parcel separately. We have one of the top bottles from Lassale today from 2012, Cuvee Angeline. This cuvee was created in 1978 to honor the birth of Jule's daughter Angeline, who would come to be the keeper of the house and currently winemaker for Lassale. The fruit for this cuvee is sourced from Chigny-les-Roses and is produced using two lieu dit plots, "les Houssets," a Pinot Noir plot planted in 1972, and "les Pécherines" Chardonnay, one planted in 1973. The blend favors Pinot Noir, which accounts for 60%, while the rest is devoted to Chardonnay. Cuvee Angeline sees some of the best fruit that the estate owns and is also one of the longest-aged cuvees that Lasalle makes, spending ten years aging on the lees in bottle.2012 shows huge promise and is a fantastic year for Pinot Noir, giving this cuvee the potential to be the best of all time from Lasalle. This is classic Lassalle, and one of the best young examples we have ever tasted of this Champagne.

Antonio Galloni 92 points! "The 2012 Brut Millesime Cuvee Angeline Premier Cru captures all the natural radiance of the year in its supple fruit and open-knit personality. Dried pear, flowers, spice, and Chamomile open nicely. Even with its rather bold personality, the 2012 Angeline remains very much within the classic Lassalle style of understatement.
