2016 San Giusto a Rentennano La Ricolma Toscana IGT

$499.99
2016 San Giusto a Rentennano La Ricolma Toscana IGT

La Ricolma, a 100% Merlot Tuscan, is arguably the best example of its kind, with 2016 being the most outstanding vintage ever. This is Massetto quality at half the price and is one of the best wines ever made by San Guisto. Hand-harvested and selected wine only comes from the best of San Guisto's Merlot vineyards, which have been farmed organically since 2006. San Guisto works as sustainably as possible with solar panels that account for 80% of their electricity and a water recycling system that they use for irrigation. 2016 is an all-star vintage for the entire San Guisto estate, with La Ricolma being one of the wines of the vintage for the entirety of Tuscany. It's also the only vintage that has received a perfect score from both Galloni and Wine Advocate, solidifying its legendary status. This is an incredibly rare and sought-after vintage for this wine, and right now, we have low pricing on some of the only bottles available in the USA.

Antonio Galloni 100 pts! The 2016 La Ricolma is a worthy follow up to the epic 2015. I don’t think any estate in Tuscany has ever turned out two back to back wines that equal San Giusto's Ricolma in 2015 and 2016. Lavender, graphite, crushed rocks, sage, licorice and crème de cassis all build in a potent yet refined Merlot. A wine of mind-blowing purity, density and explosive power, the 2016 is flat out stunning in every way. Readers who can find the 2016 should not hesitate, as it is epic in every way.

Wine Advocate (Monica Larner) 100 pts! t is my job to come up with words to describe a wine, but the 2016 La Ricolma left me speechless. "Wow" is all I could say just after tasting it. The 2016 vintage has a greater sense of focus and precision compared to the 2015, which is happier and almost carefree by comparison. The 2016 vintage is buttoned up and tightly knit. The two vintages are tricky side by side, because both are stunning, but they show different kinds of beauty. It's like comparing the colorful, folkloric and somewhat haphazard landscape of Postiano (representing the 2015 vintage) to the linear, straight and well-engineered landscape of Manhattan (representing the 2016 vintage). In terms of scoring, I gave 98 points to the 2015 vintage, which gives me only so much room to express a preference for the 2016 vintage. This edition offers so much magic on so many levels. I get black fruit and even a touch of cheerfully sweet cherry juice, alongside more mature notes of black olive, spice, tar and road paving. This is a dense, rich and succulent wine with abundant beauty and depth. Black mineral and graphite notes appear as the wine takes on more air. It really is gorgeous. A mere 4,373 bottles, 300 magnums and 30 double magnums were made.
