2018 Domaine Harmand-Geoffroy Gevrey-Chambertin 375ML

$29.99
2018 Domaine Harmand-Geoffroy Gevrey-Chambertin 375ML

The 2018 Domaine Harmand-Geoffroy Gevrey-Chambertin is produced by a family estate established in 1895, now run by Gérard Harmand and his son Philippe. The domaine owns 9 hectares of vineyards exclusively in Gevrey-Chambertin, including premier cru sites like Lavaux Saint-Jacques and La Bossière. Known for traditional winemaking, the wines are fermented with indigenous yeasts, aged 16-18 months in oak barrels (about 20-30% new), and bottled unfiltered. The 2018 vintage, marked by a warm growing season, delivered ripe, concentrated fruit with balanced acidity, is considered an excellent year in Burgundy. This wine reflects the domaine’s focus on terroir-driven expressions of Pinot Noir.

John Gilman "The 2018 Gevrey AC was not yet completely assembled at the time of my visit, so my note is only on an approximation of the final blend. As I mentioned, this is the ripest wine in the cellar this year, coming in at 14.5 percent octane, but carrying its alcohol pretty well. The bouquet is a very sappy blend of black raspberries, chocolate, hung game, dark soil tones and a touch of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full, powerful and sappy at the core, with ripe, firm tannins and good length and grip on the fruit-driven finish. This is not bad at all in its idiom, but it is a bit of an outlier chez Harmand this year. (Drink between 2024 - 2050)"
