2022 Rene Rostaing Côte-Rôtie La Landonne

$139.99
2022 Rene Rostaing Côte-Rôtie La Landonne

One of the top winemakers in Cote-Rotie, Rene Rostaing, is a classic producer who could be considered the poster child for the region. He inherited vines in some of the best locations in the Cote-Rotie from his great winemaking family members, including his beloved Cote Blonde, Cote Brune, and, of course, La Landonne, accounting for some of the best wines annually in Cote-Rotie. These compete with some of the top in the region, and the La Landonne is neck and neck with the Guigal version this vintage and does it at half the price, making it a fantastic buy for this top vineyard.

La Landonne is the best wine from Rostaing this vintage and is a superb example of this classic Cote-Rotie terroir that sees lots of iron oxide and sand in the soil. 100% Syrah, Rostiang's portion of this vineyard features vines well over 60 years old and upwards of 100 years old in some sections. It's one of the all-time greats from Rostaing and is showing well now, but it has the longevity to last for decades in the cellar. We have incredible pricing today on a limited amount, and it's the top buy for La Landonne this vintage once again!

Jeb Dunnuck 95-97 points! "The 2022 Côte Rôtie La Landonne ratchets everything up a notch, offing a darker, meaty style in its smoked black fruits, raw steak, ground pepper, and graphite notes. It's medium to full-bodied and has ripe, polished tannins and terrific overall balance."

Vinous 93-95 points! "The 2022 Côte-Rôtie La Landonne was fermented entirely with whole-clusters and is maturing in roughly 15% new oak. Orange blossom, raspberry, cranberry, violets, cedar and pencil shaving build into the structured, complex finish. Although showing well on this occasion, the Côte Brune and Côte Blonde appear to have a slight edge in 2022."

John Gilman 94 points! "The 2022 La Landonne from Domaine Rostaing is a fine young bottle of Côte-Rôtie in the making. Like all of Pierre Rostaing’s top wines in this vintage, the La Landonne has a firm chassis of tannin that will have to be waited out before the wine starts to drink with generosity. It delivers a refined aromatic constellation of cassis, pepper, coffee bean, hung game, stony soil tones, black olive, incipient notes of hazelnut, a discreet touch of cedar and a very smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, chewy and shows off outstanding depth at the core, with fine soil transparency and grip, firm tannins and fine balance on the very long, structured and promising finish, At least at this early stage, this looks likely to need a few years longer in the cellar than the Côte Blonde before it will start to drink well."
