2023 Roland Lavantureux Bourgogne Tonnerre is a terrific Chablis-adjacent white Burgundy from one of the strongest domaines in the greater Yonne. Based in Lignorelles, just north of Chablis, the Lavantureux family has farmed in the area for generations, with Arnaud and David now carrying the domaine forward with a style built around purity, mineral drive, and clear site expression. The Bourgogne Tonnerre is especially compelling because it sits just outside the Chablis appellation but shares the same broader northern Burgundy identity, with Chardonnay grown on clay-limestone and Kimmeridgian-influenced soils. Lavantureux’s vines for this cuvée were planted in 2017, and the wine is aged mostly in tank with a small portion in older barrels, keeping the profile fresh, precise, and mineral while adding a little texture. 2023 is only the second vintage showing bright orchard fruit, citrus, a creamy texture, and a long, clean finish. This is a great find for Bourgogne Blanc, offering Chablis-like freshness and limestone cut with a bit more generosity, and at this special pricing, it's a better buy than the famous appellation next door!
