Another excellent vintage of the Latro, we were able to get some of 2017 at closeout pricing once again, making it a fantastic buy for California Cabernet. This wine was a special project for Laura Diaz-Munoz, former assistant winemaker at Lokoya Winery is a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from the Kellogg Estate and Knights Bridge Estate vineyards in Knights Valley (Sonoma). The wines are made in a very European style that reminds us of a great Bordeaux and has been a big hit with our clients. This is normally a $65 to $70 bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon, but the winery decided to liquate some wines, and we are passing the savings on to our clients. For us, this is about as good as California Cabernet Sauvignon gets at in this price range.

"Coming from two sites in Knights Valley, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Latro has a darker, smokier, mineral style as well as plenty of black fruits, tobacco, and dark chocolate notes, medium to full body, and again, some grippy, firm tannins. Nevertheless, it has beautiful fruit, shows more pure cassis and violet notes with time in the glass, and is going to improve with short-term cellaring. (Drink between 2024 - 2039)

Black cherry, chocolate, spice, new leather and espresso give the 2017 quite a bit of brooding darkness. There is plenty of Knights Valley savoriness and structure, which means readers will want to cellar the 2017 for at least a few years. This is really expressive and terrific; a wine of great character. (Drink between 2022 - 2032)"

"Very deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Latro Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon opens with baked plums, crème de cassis, cardamom and tilled soil with hints of tapenade, lilacs, Indian spices and tobacco leaf. Full-bodied, rich and spicy, it fills the palate with ripe, expressive black and blue fruits, with a chewy texture and plenty of freshness, finishing long with a perfumed lift. 400 cases produced."
