These are the last bottles of this top red Burgundy buy that we have to offer. Established in 1972 by Charles and Marie-Françoise Audoin, Domaine Charles Audoin is a winemaker situated in Marsannay-la-Côte, within the Côte de Nuits region of Burgundy. Spanning approximately 14 hectares, the estate's vineyard holdings are predominantly dedicated to the cultivation of Pinot Noir and helmed by Charles' son Cyril. The vineyards are mainly located in Marsannay, where they make some of the appellations leading wines. Domaine Charles Audoin adheres to a traditional winemaking style, focusing on the terroir expression of some of the best single vineyards in Marsannay. One of these vineyards is Les Longeroies, which is the largest Lieu-dit in Marsannay. Les Longeroies is located on the northern side of town, moving south towards the village, halfway up the hill, and south of Clos du Roy. The vineyard is split into two parts: an upper and lower section. The upper portion is made of limestone slabs, while the lower site is composed of thick reddish marl. As you move uphill, the berries get smaller and more millerandé versus the larger berries and denser bunches on the deeper soils below. Audoin sources from the upper and lower portions of the vineyard to create a complete expression of this excellent site with the richness and body of the lower portions and the higher-toned, mineral-driven fruit of the upper portion. While this isn't a cru, it's incredibly well made and a beautiful village wine that is on par with some of the more well-known sites while being a relative value for the region. 2020 is the single best example that has been made here, and after a few years in the bottle, it's showing very well and will continue to build complexity. We have low pricing here today on this excellent effort, and it's highly recommended for all red burgundy fans.
