We have a very limited amount of this late release of the Vide Bouse From Marc Colin today at this same great pricing. Marc Colin created this estate in the 70s with his wife through holdings inherited by his family, the now-famous Colin's. Many of the vineyards he was gifted had been in the family's possession for over a century, and like all of the Collins, they specialize in White Burgundy as natives of Chassagne Montrachet. Though the vineyards have been split up among many family members, they continue to do the Colin name justice. Today, Marc's children, Damien and Caroline, run the estate, which currently covers 12 hectares over 26 appellations. The brother-and-sister duo practices Lutte Raisonee and is experimenting with organic practices in some vineyards. The 2016 Cru Vide Bourse comes from a small 0.58-ha parcel of old vines planted in the early 1970s on shallow clay-limestone soils just below Grand Cru Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet. The 2016 vintage was marked by severe April frost and low yields but ultimately produced concentrated, balanced wines with excellent aging potential. Fermentation is carried out with native yeasts in mostly used barrels (20% new oak), followed by 12+ months of élevage on lees without bâtonnage. The wine shows a taut, mineral profile with lemon oil, white flowers, and a saline finish—built for cellaring. This is starting to show very nicely now, and it is a fantastic bottle of white Burgundy with the perfect amount of age!
Jasper Morris MW (Inside Burgundy) 93 points! "Glowing primrose colour with quite a rich, juicy nose, good quality fruit with balanced ripeness. Massive weight on the palate though the fruit is full on yellow, even with a pineapple touch. The richness of the fruit almost swamps the acidity. Plenty of wine here and it should kick on well. DIAM 30 closure. Tasted: May 2019."
Burghound 92 points! "Like several wines in the range, there is a whiff of exoticism to the white peach, lychee nut and rosemary oil-suffused nose. There is first-rate concentration to the broad-shouldered and lavishly proportioned flavors that possess a succulent mouth feel on the impressively complex and persistent finish. Like the Champs Gain, this is a bit finer than usual despite the excellent richness."
Decanter (William Kelley) 92 points! "The Vide Bourse offers up a ripe, creamy nose of orange rind, yellow orchard fruit and preserved lemon. The wine is full-bodied and glossily textural, with sappy, racy acids and a good sense of energy. While this is a site which produces gourmand, rich wines, Colin’s rendition has plenty of energy and should develop very well in the cellar."
